Le Cercle

The art market. A dealer’s eye.

Discover Le Cercle

Le Cercle is the natural extension of La Sélection. Our ambition is to build the world’s largest online gallery, with the art market itself as its walls. A living selection of Old Master and modern paintings and drawings, chosen with a dealer’s eye and a collector’s curiosity, to discover and acquire in upcoming auctions.

Among the 12,000 to 15,000 works offered at auction each week, it is impossible to see everything. We spend dozens of hours exploring catalogues across Europe and the United States, seeking overlooked works, possible cataloguing errors and quality that an estimate may not fully reflect. Our focus is the relationship between quality, interest and price, including the entry and middle market.

Discoveries are added throughout the week. Each entry explains our choice, gives the estimate and catalogue link, and sets out the points to examine before bidding. Membership also includes commented Standout Results and the archives of La Sélection.

You buy directly from the auction house, at the price determined by bidding and with its usual fees. Le Cercle adds no markup to the artworks: membership is an entrance fee to discover the market through our eyes.

Le Cercle is a separate paid membership. Gallery Collection registration does not include Cercle access.

More about Le Cercle

Who is Le Cercle for?

Collectors building a first collection or pursuing an established interest, and dealers who want to broaden their search. The selection gives time-poor art lovers a considered starting point among thousands of auction lots.

What makes a work worth selecting?

Quality, attribution, provenance, condition, historical interest and the relationship between the work and its estimate. Particular attention goes to overlooked or potentially miscatalogued works in the entry and middle market. Each opinion is explained; a selection is not a promise of financial return.

How do I explore the works?

Opportunities can be browsed by medium and period, searched by artist or auction house, and refined by budget. New discoveries appear throughout the week. After the auction, entries remain available in the opportunity archive, alongside commented Standout Results.

How do I buy a selected work?

Follow the catalogue link and deal directly with the auction house. Check the condition report, attribution, buyer’s premium, taxes, shipping and sale terms before bidding. A Cercle membership does not appoint the gallery as your bidding agent; individual assistance can be discussed separately.

How does membership work?

Le Cercle offers monthly and annual subscriptions through La Sélection. The current rate and membership terms are shown on its website. Renewal can be cancelled from your member account, with access continuing to the end of the paid period. The Sunday newsletter remains free.

Is gallery registration the same membership?

No. The gallery’s Collection presents works offered by Poncelin de Raucourt Fine Arts and is free to explore after registration. Le Cercle is a separate paid service that opens our selection across the wider auction market. Partner content on La Sélection is identified as such.
